The Association for Gender Equity Leadership in Education (AGELE) announces the availability of scholarships students to attend the AGELE national conference. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide a knowledge base to future professionals and to encourage them to consider focusing on gender equity issues in their career. It is designed to support a postsecondary student who would otherwise be unable to afford to attend the annual conference. This scholarship consists of one full conference registration, including a one-year AGELE student membership. Upon selection, the recipient must agree to attend the entire conference to receive the scholarship and membership. The recipient will be responsible for their own transportation and lodging (assistance with locating a roommate will be provided if requested). The scholarship recipient will be expected to write a daily blog on the AGELE website during the conference about their experiences at the conference and to write an article about what they learned at the conference for the AGELE newsletter. To be eligible, applicants must be currently enrolled full time (graduate or undergraduate) in a degree granting program, and not employed full time. Applicants should submit a letter (no more than two pages) explaining their status as a student, course of study, reasons for wishing to attend the conference, reasons for applying for the scholarship, and anticipated outcomes for the student and program. Applications must include the applicant’s name, address, telephone, and email address. The application must include a reference letter from a faculty member or administrator at their institution of higher education, attesting to their status as a full-time student and providing reasons why this student should be granted the scholarship. At the time the scholarship is awarded, an agreement between AGELE and the recipient will be signed that clarifies expectations for both parties. Applications should be submitted electronically to Marta Larson, AGELE Business Manager, at businessmgr@agele.org no later than May 30. All applications will be reviewed at the same time. Applicants, whether successful or unsuccessful, will be notified by June 6. The Association for Gender Equity Leadership in Education is an equal opportunity organization. It does not discriminate against persons on the basis of gender, sex, race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, age, socioeconomic status, disability or status as a military veteran. Persons from those groups protected by federal and/or state or local nondiscrimination statutes are strongly encouraged to apply. This scholarship fund is supported by a small donation. Others wishing to contribute to this fund should address their donations to AGELE and send them to 317 S. Division St., PMB #54, Ann Arbor, MI 48104. Please write AGELE Conference Scholarship Fund on the check.
